Tucker ready to go

Ask Jason Tucker who is the greater superhero — Batman or Superman — and he picks Batman because he doesn’t have any weaknesses, unlike Superman and kryptonite.

Unfortunately for Tucker and the Edmonton Eskimos, the speedy receiver is no Batman. Tucker has a weakness and that’s his ailing back where a couple of bulging discs had kept him on the sidelines since June 1.

Until Monday, that is, when he was in full uniform and full flight in an effort to convince head coach Danny Maciocia to put him into the lineup for Thursday’s Canadian Football League pre-season home game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“I would really like to play,” Tucker said after practice. “At least get into a game, get some game shape.”

Tucker’s return put a smile on the faces of the coaching staff, but Maciocia remained non-committal about his possibility of playing in the final pre-season game.

“It was nice to see him out there,” Maciocia said. “He had a good game, took the majority of the reps. Now we’ll see how he handles himself when he gets his treatment. But it seems like he’s back.”

Tucker ran full out Monday to chase down passes from quarterbacks Ricky Ray, Jason Maas, Stefan LeFors and Tyler Donovan. He appeared unhampered as he made sharp cuts and accelerated quickly into high gear.
