Worman happy
Courtesy Edmonton Journal:
Strings attached to Jacques Chapdelaine’s hiring a year ago did not act as a lifeline for the Edmonton Eskimos’ former offensive co-ordinator.
He was lured away from the B.C. Lions with a rich two-year deal and promises of an eventual ascension to head coach, but was run out of town by president Rick LeLacheur and director of football operations Danny Maciocia, who required a scapegoat to eat the team’s 5-12-1 record.
If there is obviously no job security outside of team management, why then would Rick Worman be hesitant about signing a one-year deal to add the title of OC to his duties as quarterbacks coach? Simply put, he wasn’t.
“It’s fine. I have enough personal confidence,” he said over the phone Wednesday from California.
“That’s the nature of the beast. I’m OK with it. It sharpens your pencil that much more. You can’t relax. Not that it would have happened if I’d had two years.”
Good point. Nobody on the offensive side of the ball should be afforded a good night’s sleep between June and the end of November. There are simply too many sins for which this new group of offensive players and coaches will have to atone, and quickly.
